Granite State College

Institution Type: Granite State College is a fully-accredited 4-year public institution, established in 1972. As part of the University System of New Hampshire, the college provides statewide access to higher education for adults of all ages, including new High School graduates who choose not to attend a residential college.

Enrollment Figures: Degree/Credit: 1,530 students, including 128 in a post-baccalaureate certificate program
Noncredit: 452 students.

Degree Offerings: In addition to A.A., A.S., and B.A. programs, Granite State College offers Bachelor of Science degrees with a variety of majors designed especially for nontraditional students: Applied Technology (Management; Education and Training; Allied Health Care Services; Specialized Studies); Behavioral Science (Criminal Justice-Criminal Justice Administration; Computing and Information Technology; Visual Programming; Systems Analysis and Design; Information Technology Management): Early Childhood Education; Management (Leadership and Strategic Management; Finance; Information Technology; Human Resource Management; Managing in Health Care); Self-Design.

Unique Characteristics:

  • Students benefit from the broad age distribution within classes, including mature high school graduates who cannot attend a residential campus, or choose not to do so.
  • Small faculty-to-student ratio (10:1); many faculty are active practitioners in their fields.
  • Ongoing individual counseling about educational and life goals.
  • Even one 4-credit course per term can qualify a student for financial aid.
  • Many ways to earn credit for prior learning, with no time limit on transfer credits from accredited institutions.
  • Students can custom-design courses, working with faculty mentors through Independent Learning Contracts.
  • Large variety of online degree-completion choices, including Self-Design B.A., and B.S. programs.
  • Numerous articulation agreements with the NH Community Technical College System provide students from all parts of the state with a seamless transition into baccalaureate programs.
  • Granite State College’s nationally recognized Education & Training Partnership program provides continual practical training to foster and adoptive parents throughout the state.
